The United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) aims to give everyone the opportunity to add life to years, wherever they live. The Decade is a transformative collaboration of diverse sectors and stakeholders that focuses on changing how we think, feel, and act towards ageing; cultivating age-friendly environments; creating integrated and responsive health care systems and services; and ensuring access to long-term care for older people who need it.

Every Age Counts is an advocacy campaign aimed at tackling ageism against older Australians.
Ageism is not benign or harmless. It is a big problem because it impacts on our confidence, quality of life, job prospects, health, and control over life decisions. As well as its individual impacts, ageism can also deny society the enormous range of benefits that can flow, economically and socially, from the full participation of older people.

Ageism affects how we think, feel and act towards others and ourselves based on age. It imposes powerful barriers to the development of good policies and programmes for older and younger people and has profound negative consequences on older adults’ health and well-being.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) is working with key partners on a Global Campaign to Combat Ageism. The Campaign aims to change the narrative around age and ageing and help create a world for all ages.
